Meet the Amateurs

noun: amateur; plural noun: amateurs

  1. a person who engages in a pursuit on an unpaid rather than a professional basis.

From the Latin word “amare”, meaning “to love“.

All of a sudden, it hits you. Parenthood. Time to work harder than you’ve ever worked, to hit the steepest learning curve you’ve ever hit, and become an expert in an ever-changing field, only to remain, always and forever…an amateur! Parenting is most certainly a job we do for the love (and the tears, laughs, sweat, frustration and fear) but boy, do we receive a lot of love back in return.

We are Freya and Rob, two 40-something first-time parents to a little brown-eyed boy called Odhrán, born in April 2019. Being “mature” parents should mean we’re a little wiser and a little better equipped for the journey of parenthood, but perhaps we have just had longer to get used to being selfish and having no responsibilities!

In a previous life, I was a TV presenter, model and actress. Starting out in the mid-2000’s, I was a prolific TV host on the ever-growing Sky and Cable network, moving on to become a jobbing actress in commercials, indie films and TV soaps.

Rob is based in secondary schools, working closely with young people and their families to pave a productive, positive path for their futures by achieving their best and turning their backs on crime. It’s actually Rob’s second career, as he previously worked as a professional equestrian, teaching people how to ride horses and competing in showjumping competitions.

Join us as we stumble and fumble our way through the labyrinth that is Parenthood. We’ll be sharing the successes and the inevitable f**k-ups as honestly as we can, and we’d love to have you by our side.

Freya & Rob x

Let’s make something together.
